Trade up to a career in carpentry

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to work as carpenter in the building and construction industry. Learn how to plan and organise work; read and interpret plans and specifications; construct wall, bulkheads and ceiling frames; install and replace windows and doors; construct pitched and advanced roofs and eaves; perform levelling operations; cut and bend materials; frame and fit wet area fixtures; and erect and dismantle formwork for footings and slabs on the ground. You will also gain skills in a number of other areas including working safely at heights, installing flooring systems, and wet area fixtures. Engineer your own future

Develop the practical and technical skills to design and draft various engineering applications and drawings for transport systems, pipelines, dams, bridges, high-rise buildings and plant, mining and industrial water and waste management facilities. Entry requirements

  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Courses may require different resources, depending on your study location;

All students must have the following items on their first day of class attendance:

Personal protection equipment:
• Safety footwear (AS2210)
• Clear safety glasses (AS1337)
• Hearing protection (AS1270)
• Hard hat (AS/NZS1801)
• Protective clothing to be neat casual clothing, no sleeveless shirts or singlets.

Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes.

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited!

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place letter. To accept it and secure your place in your chosen program, you will need to:

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Please note that International Orientation day is compulsory. Students must attend the International Orientation Day before commencing their studies with TAFE Queensland.


At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation which is usually conducted the week before study commences will help answer many of your questions about studying with TAFE Queensland. This comprehensive orientation covers many important topics including

  • Learning support

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
