This is an intermediate course for the delivery of English language, literacy and numeracy to learners who have had some exposure to English and have developed a basic level of English language skills. This qualification will build your confidence in English language related work skills including presentations, résumé writing, in-depth conversations and report writing. You’ll learn how to negotiate transactions and respond to complex spoken instructions as well as develop language skills necessary for casual conversations and job interviews. You will also study syntax, grammar and punctuation, giving you the ability to enter the workforce or move on to further study. Course details

Before studying at TAFE Queensland I worked as an accountant in the financial sector of a multinational pharmaceutical company in Colombia. I decided to study English in Australia because it's a safe, modern, and progressive country. It offers quality education, international recognition, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. I chose to study at TAFE Queensland because it's government owned and operated and gives me the opportunity to continue my professional training at a high standard. The teachers at TAFE Queensland have broad theoretical and practical knowledge of the English language. They make classes practical and applicable to everyday life. They are patient, organised and make learning enjoyable and entertaining. After finishing my English language studies I want to continue my professional training and obtain a masters in finance to add value to my resume and expand my opportunities for work.

Our English Language Programs have been developed to offer you condensed yet comprehensive courses to improve your English language skills. We offer six levels of classes from elementary to advanced including English for Academic Purpose (EAP) and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Preparation.

Entry requirements

You will be required to undergo an initial pre-training assessment to determine which course level you are best suited to prior to enrolment.

You should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Courses may require different resources, depending on your study location.

Timetable

Classes run full-time over 17 weeks (15 teaching weeks), 4 days per week;

  • Monday to Thursday 8:45am. to 3pm.

Please note, timetables for future semesters may differ.

Placement

Some qualifications require students to participate in vocational placement to successfully complete and achieve their TAFE Queensland award. If vocational placement is a course requirement it will be organised by your School/Faculty and you will be provided with all the information you need to prepare. Remember you are responsible for ensuring you have met all the requirements to participate in vocational placement.

During these placements, you may become familiar with information that is confidential to that workplace (for example financial or business affairs, personal affairs and family background of staff and clients, technical information, trade secrets, know-how, formulae, processes, ideas, and inventions). You must not divulge any confidential information that you become aware of during a placement. Breaches of confidentiality will be considered to be acts of behavioural misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Applying to TAFE Queensland International is easy. You can submit an application at any time, but get in early as positions are limited!
Before you apply, make sure that you check that you meet the specific academic and language requirements for your chosen course.

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer of Place letter. To accept it and secure your place in your chosen program, you will need to:

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Please note that International Orientation day is compulsory. Students must attend the International Orientation Day before commencing their studies with TAFE Queensland.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester orientation events are hosted across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland recommends you arrive two weeks prior to your course start date to allow time to organise and settle into your accommodation and prepare for your studies.

International Orientation which is usually conducted the week before study commences will help answer many of your questions about studying with TAFE Queensland. This comprehensive orientation covers many important topics including

  • Living in Queensland and understanding our Australian culture

  • Accommodation

  • Banking

  • Transport

  • Student safety

  • Learning support

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), insurance and medical needs

Program specific orientations are also conducted one week prior to the start of study. This is an opportunity for you to meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.
